LESSON PLAN FOR FORM 1: UNDERSTANDING VERB


Topic: Understanding Verb
Date: 23rd/July/2012
Instruction: Fill in the missing verbs.
Focus: Critical thinking skills and verbs
Learning objectives:
At the end of the lesson, students should be able to:
1.      Understand that verb is the most important part of creating a correct English sentence.
2.      Find the correct verbs to complete the sentences.
3.      Understand that without a verb, that sentence is completely meaningless.
Introduction:
1.      The teacher enters the class.
2.      The teacher checks the student’s attendance.
3.      The teacher makes sure that the class is clean.
4.      The teacher greets the students.
Starters:
1.      The teacher asks them about the most important part of a sentence.
2.      The teacher asks them why that part is very important.
3.      The teacher gives them an analogy to make them understand the importance of a verb in a sentence by comparing the verb with the importance of their heart in their body system.
4.      The heart is very important as it provides oxygen to all parts of the body.
5.      The teacher also gives them another analogy by comparing the verb with the car engine.
6.      A car is nothing without the presence of an engine. Customers also  buy cars based on the amount of trust they have in a particular engine such as Toyota, Proton, Suzuki, Mercedes, Rolls Royce, Ferrari and etc.
Methods:
1.      The teacher gives them each of them a copy of the exercise on the missing verbs.
2.      They are given about 20 minutes to fill in the missing verbs.
3.      Then, the teacher gives them the answers.
4.      The teacher discusses the answers with the students together with some examples provided some of them fail to understand the explanation.
5.      The teacher also discusses some answers given by the students which could be used in that particular sentence.

Plenary:
1.      The teacher then discusses the importance of a verb in a sentence.
2.      The teacher also discusses the importance of using correct English sentence in speaking and writing.
3.      The teacher also asks for some feedback from them regarding the activity.  
4.      The teacher also asks them about some new words that they have learned from the text.
Success Criteria:
You are successful if you can:
1.      Fill in the missing verbs.
2.      Understand the importance of a verb in an English sentence.

Two killed in accident.
Two youths also injured in three-vehicle collision

MALACCA: Two men died and two others were injured in an accident involving a car and two motorcycles at the Alor Gajah-Malacca-Jasin HighWay and Peringgit/Melaka Sentral Junction.
                A Proton Saga Aeroback, driven by Noh Hamrizal Ahmad, 21, was believed to have skidded into the other lane and caused the collision at 2.50 a.m. yesterday.
                His passenger Abdul Rahup Yusof, 19, a boat crew member from the Petronas Refinery in Sungai Udang here, died on the spot while Noh Hamrizal sustained facial injuries.
                One of the motorcyclists, Muhammad Firdaus Mod. Said, 19, also died on the spot while the other, Khairul Bismi, suffered leg and chest injuries.
                Noh Hamrizal and Khairul were warded at the Malacca Hospital.
                Police and fireman who arrived at the scene found Abdul Rahup who was trapped in the mangled car.
                Muhammad Firdaus’s mother Zuraidah Ghani, from Telok Mas Near here, said she could not believe it when she was told that her son died in an accident.
                She said Muhammad Firdaus had hugged her the day before and she was surprised at that because he was not a person who expressed his love publicly.
                “I asked him why he did that, but he just smiled”.
                “Before the accident, he told me he was going out for an “asam pedas” dinner, but he never came home,” she said, adding that Muhammad Firdaus, the fourth of six siblings, was especially close to her.
                Zuraidah said Muhammad Firdaus’s death had hit her very hard and the timing was especially bad as this was the second tragedy for the family within a month.
                She said Muhammad Firdaus ‘s elder brother died of cancer last month.
 Melaka Tengah OCPD Assistant Commissioner, Salehhudin Abdul Rahman said the cause of the accident was being investigated.
